Comparing: KV-13 vs. T-44-85 vs. T-34-1
Development was started in the fall of 1941, under the initiative of Semyon Ginsburg. After successful trials in the fall of 1942, the development of a second prototype was begun.
Development started in 1943. The design received an upgrade after the trials of the prototype. A standard T-44A model was built in August 1944 and the trials continued. The T-44A never entered mass-production. However, the next prototype of the vehicle was mass-produced.
In 1954 the Chinese government considered the possibility of launching production of the T-34-85 in China. At the same time, Chinese engineers proposed an alternative project: the T-34-1. While based on the T-34-85, the T-34-1's transmission compartment and suspension were to be rearranged, reducing overall weight and giving a lower hull. In 1954, several designs of the vehicle, with varying turrets and armament, were developed. However, a prototype was never built.
